I can't remember exactly how and when I first fell in love with UME. Some time back in early 2012 I guess. At the time I was lucky enough to see them live a while after in Paris for their first European tour. I've tried to keep up with them since, even if they don't come over here that often. I sadly missed their show at the intimate Espace B, on august 31st, 2012, just after their performance at Rock En Seine but fortunately, Rod and Indiegilles have made up for it sharing online what they could see that night (thanks guys !). So, here are parts of this show with a rough start for the band on the electric " Conductor" which soon turned into an unwanted "unplugged" version ! ;-) Here too, under the name of "Bass Face" and "Slow Pog" (?), what sounds like the in-progress draft of the coming "Too Big World" and "Oh Fate" which would later appear on "Monument" album.
Anyway, this is a brimful UME dvd, spanning over the last five years and showing very well how good  they've grown and how big they would truly deserve to be. I sometimes chose to trim some shows to vary the songs (sadly no "Run Wild" or "Pendulum" live ! - out of luck ?  stage technical reasons ?) or to keep different versions (see "Black Stone" 2011 / 2014).
When I heard they were going to play at the British Summer Festival this summer, my last hum and haw uncertainties were definitely swept away ! I packed up and hit the road. I've added a few personal footage of this gig at the end of the dvd (couldn't put more due to lack of space). Sorry for the shaky framing sometimes, it was hard to hold it back !! :-)
So, can't wait to see them live round again ! I still have my ticket for the teamed French tour with Girls Vs Boys and Double Nelson back in may 2013, which eventually had to be cancelled for the recording of "Monument". But it's been worth the wait ! Give a listen to it, a true masterpiece !!
In the meantime, hope you'll enjoy this one ... !!

Cheers !

**********************************************************************************************************
NEW LINKS !!  All the dead links have now been restored ! Enjoy !
**********************************************************************************************************

Ok ... first of all, thank you so much Finatic and Jacob for sharing your masters of the Fuji Rock and Werchter shows ! Your generosity led straight to this dvd which I guess, must have been made by someone before but I've got it hanging on my mind for quite a while now. The Glastonbury set has already been issued here on this blog and from the feedback I got from a tracker, I guess I wasn't the only one who dreamt of it. So here they are, the best available highlights of the QOTSA-Dave Grohl era, including the first and the last 2002 shows of rock'n'grohl Dave in the band of his buddy Josh Homme.
As often, the Troubadour set is filmed in a dim light atmosphere and I haven't managed to find a better quality footage of the show (if someone has a master,  please share it, I'm ready to start it all over !!) but, it is definitely a heavy high energy one with a Dave Grohl bouncing on his drums from the first beats of "Monsters In The Parasol".
The two other highlights are a treat for the eyes since the band is playing in a much clearer atmosphere, right in the daylight of a summer afternoon. The Fuji Rock gig is indeed particular as it is D. Grohl last performance with the band, as he nicely mentioned it in the interview at the end of the video, but also because the band is in a really good shape, with the wild meteorite "Quick And To The Pointless" and the long jam (well over 8 mns !) on "Walking On The Sidewalks", sung by Mark Lanegan !
The Rock Werchter excerpt is great fun too. The interview breaks give an interesting insight of how the band was getting along at the time and it also includes a not so common Spanish version of "Gonna Leave You", sung by Nick.
As a bonus, I've added a best-of-both-worlds footage of the last Grammy Awards ceremony, where Dave joined back the newest line-up of the band to play the first single of the last album, "My God Is The Sun".
Anyway, it's been quite a long process. Hope it's worth it.

Enjoy !

Cheers !

Blood Red Shoes' new lp is out tomorrow. You can pre-listen to it here. Definitely cut out for live, which I hope, I'll be able to check this year. On a personal note, I first met the high power duo in 2009 in a nearby long regretted festival. I've seen them four or five times since and it was just like good old friends you don't see much but can always rely on to share great moments. As a man, you can't fail falling in love with the band for obvious reasons (!) but above all, they can still be enjoyable today for their loud and snappy immediacy, always ready to amp up the fans on their relentless tours. Always appreciated this "give all you got" side. So, to celebrate this full devotion and the release of the new album, here are 2 shows that go back over their first two efforts. The first one may have been dear to them since they played back in their hometown, Brighton, for "The Great Escape" festival. Quite a close-range show for not being held on stage but right in the middle of the audience in a dark-blue intimate atmosphere, with many close-up shots. "Who wants a beer ...?"  Have also a look at 4:23 below. Not easy to stage-dive when there's no stage ! :-)
For the second part, I wanted to dig up deep in the early period with a daylight open air show.  Unfortunately, I couldn't get my hands on any real hd stream of the time. But yet, this 2008 Melt! gig is still watchable. Kind of funny to see that the voices seem to sound maybe a bit more diffident or milder in tone but they do already know how to hold their ground on stage. Headlong first ! Steven was corn-coloured as ever at that time and Laura-Mary had a straight fringed auburn hairstyle which ... well, any cut suits her, honestly ! To go quite a way back in time, I've also added a footage from their 2007 energetic Paradiso's show with their closing song, ADHD. Nice finale with a stage invasion and a nice crowd-surfing from Steven.  Anyway, can't wait to see them back on the  road. As said before, the new songs are just rough enough to be played loud right in your ears.

Enjoy !

Cheers !

No sooner had John Dwyer announced an "indefinite hiatus" and "a well deserved break and a transitional period" for his band that he eased the fans' anxiety with the disclosure of a forthcoming new album, now due on April, 19th. The single is already out and can be listened to here. In the meantine, he has as well embarked on a solo lp under the name "Damaged Bug". Again, no breather in the frantic pace of the manic man ! The two shows here are cast in the same rampant mould, knob stuck on 10 on rhythm scale and with Dwyer and  Dammit still shaking and twisting their rubber-like neck. Deep in a swirling bubbling energy all the way, Dwyer's fuzz sound can't stop spurting and rippling up and down across the hall. This is particularly impressive on the over 7'00 of "Contraption / Soul Desert" played at the City Sounds Festival, in Paris, that night. Anyway, definitively a must-see live band. Hope to see them again !

Enjoy !

What can I add about this band I haven't said  before ?  So, here's another hot rocking show from our shooters at one of, if not my favourite festival, Pukkelpop, in Kiewit, Belgium. This was one of their last ones on their European summer tour, which ended in Istanbul on september 7th, (and here's the good news !) before flying to LA to record their new album, due spring 2014. Some great new loud gigs ahead !!

Enjoy !

And here is your Christmas present ! I already told you about this great youthful band some months ago, when they deserverdly featured the "video of the week" section, for months ! Now, this is time for a complete show, filmed this early december when they were exclusively invited by the Trans Musicales festival organizers for their only date in France. Made of three siblings and two friends, aged 14 to 20 (!!), they all kind of met through the Paul Green’s School of Rock network and decided to hit the road together. Talent has no age and what is particularly striking and remarkable here is that, at such an early age, they already sound like old vintage soul-rock vets, half way between Led Zeppelin (self accepted influence) and Amy Whinehouse-Betty Davis, for Baily, their yeasty and cheerful singer. This is really Im-pres-sive !! Undoubtedly, the new band of the year !! They will sure turn big if they keep on delivering such a masterly performance.
On top of their Trans Musicales show, I've added two songs from their first tour here, as a support band for The Heavy, back in february, when I first came across them. "Summertime" was just awesome that night (see below) ! Still as an extra, a special exclusive report made by a French mag when they came to Rennes, which truly proves the great interest stirred by the band, even overseas !
Lastly, any help welcome on the tracklisting as most of the songs played that night hasn't been released yet, their first album coming out early 2014. Don't miss it !! I tried to sort it out from a tracklist held by Bayli on a recent photo but ...
Anyway, Merry Christmas to you all !! I hope this is the kind of stuff you would like to find under the tree ... !

Enjoy !

Cheers !

What a band !! No doubt James Murphy's post-punk-dance-groovy machine (see the videos below for the right mix ! the first rows go crazy at 2'21 on "Movement" !) will be missed. The official "Shut up and play the hits" documentary-dvd, released in 2012,  is an awesome, energetic and witty testimony of the band's last call (a 3 hour last ever concert at the MSG !) since JM has decided to self dismantle it in 2011. Even if their influence on music over the last ten years is unquestionable and acclaimed both by the public and the critics, they have never really turned mainstream, making the band even more precious for those who knew what the stuff was like, particularly live !! By the way, the evidence that the band's memory still lives on on many minds also lies in the great forthcoming photobook, out this december (preview : here), that goes over the entire group's life since the early 2000.
As for this dvd, the band is in great shape at Lowlands festival, this late august 2010. Quite a lot of talk from James and a special anniversary. I've tried to fill it to the brim with additional footage from Glastonbury festival shot in the golden setting daylight of the day, the sun nicely bouncing over Pat Mahoney's cymbal.

Enjoy !

Cheers !
